Montgomery County Historical Society

Montgomery County Historical Society in Their Own Words

Montgomery History—the county’s historical society—has been serving residents & the region through its research library, adult programs, educational activities, publications, exhibits, & conferences since the organization was founded in 1944. As the only organization addressing the entire scope of county history, we serve a unique role in creating a shared sense of place & building safer & more welcoming communities. Montgomery History is where the stories of who we are, rooted in where we have been, are collected, preserved, & shared.

Montgomery History is the only countywide, non-profit organization concerned with the collection, preservation, & interpretation of Montgomery County’s history & heritage. Montgomery History’s staff & docents offer research & historical interpretation to the public through the Jane Sween Research Library & Special Collections, the Montgomery County Archives, & the Stonestreet Museum of 19th Century Medicine. We also provide innovative programming for the community, including historical talks available from our Speakers Bureau, weekly online History Conversations, & online exhibits, as well as pop-up engagements at community events.
