Somerset is an incorporated, self-governing town led by a mayor and town council. The mayor, elected for a two-year term, serves as the chief executive officer and the head of the administrative branch of the town’s government. The mayor also oversees the ordinances, regulations, and rules governing the town.
The legislative powers of the town are vested with the council that consists of five members who are elected at large for two-year terms.
Location
The seat of the government is the “Little Red House” at 4510 Cumberland Avenue, which the town purchased in 1965 to serve as the Town Hall. Built in 1902, the house aptly serves the historic community of Somerset.
