Recycle Salvage Materials

*

At spring cleaning time, we often wonder where to get rid of salvageable items. If you find yourself in that position with regard to old computers - both Apple and PC - or building materials, start with the Montgomery County web site and Shady Grove Transfer Station and move on to the nonprofit Loading Dock for recycling building materials and Washington Apple Pi (Apple computer products). Also look at what IBM is doing for both IBM compatible and non-IBM computers.

IBM & Envirocycle
A computer recycling program run by IBM: ship old computers (IBM and non-IBM) to a PA organization called Envirocycle where they are then donated through Gifts in Kind International. In addition, they will dismantle and recycle computers that are no longer usable. Customers pay a total of $29.99 incl. shipping fees, and IBM sends them receipts for tax benefits for donations. Contact IBM Recycling Service, (888) SHOP-IBM. Quick reference part number: 06P7513 (This is from Co-op America Quarterly.)
