The Town of Somerset is located in Chevy Chase, Maryland just across the District of Columbia line in Montgomery County. As of the 2010 U.S. Census there were 1,216 residents living in Somerset in 407 households.

Somerset is known for its park-like setting within an urban area. Somerset Elementary School, the Somerset pool, tennis courts, and Town Hall are centers of activity that contribute to the town’s strong sense of community. Somerset is conveniently located, and within walking distance to Metro’s Red Line and multiple bus stops. Somerset, as an incorporated town, has its own mayor and Town Council.
The town is just steps from the Capital Crescent Trail. This trail follows an abandoned railroad right of way and extends 11 miles from Georgetown in the District of Columbia, to Silver Spring in Montgomery County. The trail, one of 500 rail-to-trail projects in the nation, traverses neighborhoods and parkland and includes stretches along the Potomac River. Bikers, walkers, and serious hikers all enjoy use of the trail.
